Electric vs wood-fired sauna heaters.
Both are proper Harvia heaters and both get you to a genuine, hot, stone-filled sauna. The choice comes down to how you'll actually use it, not which is "better".
The Harvia Cilindro (electric)
A stainless steel column heater, stone-filled, mounted on a 450 × 450mm slab. From £789. It runs off a standard electrical connection sized during your site appraisal, heats up faster than a wood-fired unit, and needs no flue, chimney, or fuel store: nothing on the roofline, nothing to stack and dry.
It's the heater most of our clients choose, largely because it fits into daily life more easily: turn it on, wait, use it. Add the Wi-Fi controller (£650) and you can start heating remotely before you've even left the house.
The Harvia M3 (wood-fired)
A traditional cast-iron stove with flue and heat shields, from £1,800. No mains power needed, so it suits off-grid sites or a plot where running a new electrical supply is impractical or expensive. It also gives a different, more ritual experience: building and tending the fire is part of the sauna itself for a lot of people.
It takes longer to bring the room up to temperature, needs a dry, seasoned wood supply, and requires a flue through the roof, which your site appraisal will assess for clearance and positioning.
Which should you choose?
Choose electric if you want convenience, minimal maintenance, and the option to heat remotely. Choose wood-fired if you're off-grid, want the lower running profile of not drawing mains power, or simply prefer the ritual of a real fire. Both are available on the Kemi and the Koli, and the choice doesn't affect the rest of the specification. Cladding, glazing, and interior finish stay the same either way.
